The Tragic Past behind Cassandra Saturn’s decision to leave Earth and Humanity behind in “Star Trek: Kamidake"

believe it or not, this is actually a true story that actually happened in parallel universe next to our universe which our very own Cassandra Saturn never left Earth.

here are many different stories of Star Trek Kamidake, but the original first Star Trek Kamidake series was heavily focused on Cassandra Saturn of 21st century in parallel universe which our own Cassandra Saturn dubbed that particular universe as “Universe Bei" referring to other version of herself living in that universe. the story goes...

Cassandra Saturn in Universe Bei, was living comfortable life with her family. in alternate reality of Universe Bei, whose lives are different but parallel to ourselves. at point somewhere in 2008, she got into argument with her mother and ended up having her relationship strained to the point that she doesn’t consider her mom a family or a mother. the relationship was strained further that it almost was destroyed when terror attacks happened in 2010’s Boston Marathon Bombing.

having fed up with all those bullshit happening on Earth. she sought out handful of people who was capable of building a starship and engineers for technology, life support and more. the construction of ship dubbed “NX-01" began in 2013. by 2017, she and her team faced shortages in materials, but it was finally completed in 2021. her family were not homeless, they moved out to NX-01’s secret location and began the process of living here on the ship. but in late 2021, her mother was shot and killed by Protesters and Police, she was caught in middle of of the riot. Cassandra brought her back to the ship and managed revive her just barely. Cassandra finally reconciled with her mother despite the years of not talking or anything else to do. but then her mother died this time. her wounds were so severe that she succumbed to her injuries.

Cassandra, having lost her mother was angry at Humanity and the way Human Race lived like that. she made the decision to leave Earth. she activated NX-01’s systems and loaded up all of her family’s vehicles aboard the ship. Cassandra who has been living on the ship since it was completed, powered up the engines. the ship was very unique because it runs on impossible power source that’s hard to make or find. only found among ships that’s warp-capable. NX-01 was revolutionary design. Cassandra was only one who knew how to make it possible.

the entire ground above shook hard as the engines started. the shaking of ground was felt up to 250 miles away. that’s how powerful Engines of NX-01 was. lot of people came out to look around, wonder what is happening. finally, NX-01 rose out of the secret bay it was housed in. people were shocked to see a ship rising into sky. military and police were called, even the NASA as well. they tracked the ship moving toward Space. the secret bay that opened up was closing on its own. locking up the secrets forever. the base itself is heavily fortified and extremely tough. no outsider can get inside without permission.

NX-01 finally reached Space, the ship was extremely sealed up well and airtight. it worked. once in Space, Cassandra directs NX-01 towards International Space Station. flying it manually. she flew past the station at close range, enough to give everyone a full view of the starship and its name. the name was Kamidake. a reference to Seina Yamada’s starship in Tenchi Muyo! GXP series. everyone watched in sheer amazement of the ship as it flew by then suddenly goes into warp as warp engines activated on way out towards deep space. her destination was unknown. she never chose a specific location in solar system. Cassandra was leaving her solar system behind.

six months later, a signal was received by SETI. it originated in Centauri Prime. a world over 25 light years away. the signal was a match to NX-01’s signal that emitted just before it warped out. Cassandra had made it to her secret destination. Earth tried everything to get her to respond. but all communications were blocked. it meant she effectively cut off her ties to Humanity and her home planet.

Cassandra had enough of Humanity, no humanity remained inside her because of her mother’s death. she is still living aboard her ship, orbiting Centauri Prime. the outpost was set up here on the planet by her. it had exploded into metropolis six months later, now fully grown trading hub for everything and everyone. all manners of starships were launching and landing, even refueling.

sure, everyone in the intergalactic community was curious about Cassandra Saturn. she never talks about her origins or where she came from. she calls herself the Cassandra Saturn vas Kamidake. meaning her ship is her home.

three years later, a ship named Frontier arrived at Centauri Prime. the ship was fitted with rudimentary but basic warp engines, cryostasis pods for the crew. the crew woke up to arrival. on their view, they saw thousands of ships. including NX-01 orbiting the planet. suddenly, NX-01 turned around exiting its orbit. flew towards Frontier. the crew tried to open communications with NX-01. but like before, communications were blocked. NX-01 fired a warning shot across the bow of Frontier. it was clear that they were not welcome. the crew tried again to call her ship. still blocked. second warning shot was fired, only 3 meters closer to the bow. crew decided to acknowledge that warning. Frontier turned around and exited the system..

but Frontier stayed behind just outside of NX-01’s range. the crew debated about the situation. suddenly.. alert blared all over. the crew looks outside and sees massive ship appears, all hell breaks loose. every ship is charging towards the massive ship and firing on it. including NX-01 is firing on the same massive ship. the Frontier crew was stunned, the NX-01 wasn’t a normal ship. it was designed for combat. all freighters and transports were fleeing the planet in droves. massive ship suddenly charging up, its weapon coming out of the body. all attacking ships flee by warping out.

but Kamidake remained. NX-01 charged in towards the weapon. it fired a beam at the ship. but the Kamidake’s shield holds.. deflecting the beam into four little beams away from the planet. Kamidake held its ground against the massive ship. but then it chose a new target, Frontier. it turned around and targeted the vessel. the crew panicked about, sending chaos and confusion aboard the ship. Frontier turned around and flee but it won’t escape the beam that’s going to come. Kamidake flew in fast and tractored them with tractor beam, extended its shields and warp bubble as well. both ships warped out fast to safe location at considerable distance.

Kamidake then returns to the planet. few minutes late, massive explosion was seen in distance. all fleeing ships returned. Frontier hitched a ride with one of fleeing ships, made it back to the planet. here, they find massive ship in pieces, all destroyed. Kamidake is heavily damaged, one of its warp engines all deactivated. Kamidake makes emergency landing on the planet. it reaches massive shipyard and is moored, held up by powerful beams that keeps vessel from falling or moving around. a similar phenomenon seen in Mass Effect Normandy docking scenes.

Frontier crew’s startling realization.. it had become painfully obvious that Kamidake was far advanced than anything else that Earth had. Frontier crew decided to come over and see the Captain in person personally. at first, the Captain Saturn refused to let them inside her vessel or go outside while they are here. but they disguised as repair crew and got upclose look at Kamidake’s damage outside and inside. it was pretty bad. the hull itself was very durable and tough.

it held up better than anything else Earth had in its ship materials. as for inside, it was mess. blown relays, buckled bulkheads, damaged warp core as well bridge being trashed up pretty good. everything else is fine, can be fixed. it was estimated that repairs would take three weeks. apparently the repairs for Kamidake had been major priority for everyone. the Frontier crew realized that Kamidake was the only ship that stood out against dangerous threats. it explains why it put up impressive fight against the massive ship. they reached Captain’s quarters on B Deck, it was here that they made shocking discovery. Cassandra Saturn had been receiving messages from Earth, all status and changes. but never responded. here was a large table that had original newspaper on the day a woman died. it was her mother. next to it a note that says “Extermination of Human Race" Cassandra was planning to destroy the entire human race, so that existence of humans wouldn’t pose a threat to the intergalactic community. it was serious blow but it showed that Cassandra Saturn was no longer part of human race. that couldn’t be more true. they had discovered that Cassandra’s body was frozen in cryostasis pod, advanced version. the Captain itself is not human. but rather a machine. she had transferred from her original body to machine body. they were caught by Cassandra herself in her quarters. Frontier crew was arrested for trespassing. but the crew asked her to talk to them. pleading her to do that. Cassandra sits down and agrees to talk.

“my body is fine, I froze it to protect my body from age of the time. this is merely part of my memory as living machine. I wouldn’t do anything unnecessary for my original body."

she said. Cassandra explained that she doesn’t want to return to Earth or anything to do with her people. rather be left alone. the death of her mother was enough to destroy all remains of Humanity in her. it was the factor that broke her ties to everything human. she was really willing to destroy human race if they so decided to come close to her new home planet that she founded on.

three weeks later, Kamidake was repaired and back in service. given the nature of Frontier, Cassandra piloted Kamidake and tractor beam, extended its own warp bubble to frontier. Kamidake took Frontier back home. Cassandra told Frontier crew that they have long way to go in terms of technology and the way they treat each other. it was clear message that Humanity isn’t here yet. but cautioned by her that Humanity isn’t welcomed back to Centauri Prime again. Kamidake leaves the solar system again. Kamidake’s warp engine was capable of Warp 5.3. more than enough for them to get here in few hours and back, compared to Frontier’s warp 1 engine and cryostasis pods.

Cassandra Saturn made changes to Kamidake and traveled through the barrier that separates parallel universes in respective dimensions. she passed over to “Universe Ami" which is our own universe. she also used the time travel trick to travel to past. she arrived in 2008 and met our Cassandra Saturn here. they had long talk. even shared what will happen in future. after brief stay, she returned to her starship and returned her universe Bei. everything that happened here was in accordance with our Saturn’s decisions. even although she didn’t anticipate she would lose so many things in here. unlike her counterpart in universe Bei, she lost so much. in universe Bei, Austin is alive and doing well. her grandma is alive as well, having the events that never happened in her “Universe Ami" and the fact she never lost her home in Bei unlike Ami. it meant that what her counterpart said was correct, parallel universes have same path but decisions that are associated/assigned/aligned with these paths are varied on the decision, like “what if?" what if I didn’t choose the shirt or I got wrong shirt for the day. it’s same here, endless cycle for everyone. all part of life.

Cassandra Saturn of Universe Bei is deadly and dangerous individual, a force to be reckoned with. with no humanity in her, she will kill others without mercy.

as for our Cassandra Saturn of Universe Ami, she’s nothing like her counterpart. she still has humanity, despite massive losses in her life. she is a paragon of hope. she’s very nice and happy, compassionate person. she won’t lose her humanity no matter what. she taught herself to keep what part of her humanity contained within herself despite anything that could potentially push her to lose her humanity. it’ll be years before she loses it all that easily. she’s very stubborn individual like her counterpart, fight to death by all means necessary. even she will have to use deadly force as last resort.
